Weight falls and so do several PR's!

Post by PhotoBob » Sat Dec 05, 2015 5:18 pm

In the last few months I decided to take more control over my weight - although I’ve been maintaining my original weight loss quite well, I was not happy with being stuck in an endless cycle of gain and lose - I’ve been gaining and losing the same 10-12 pounds for 5 years!. I took a long hard look at my eating and devised a plan to help me lose weight – and over the last few months I’ve lost 27 pounds.

I can’t believe how it’s affected my running! Several PR’s have recently fallen as my weight came off and my running times have gotten faster! Here are 3 of my newest PR’s that I’ve hit in just the last few weeks:

5 mile PR - 49:37 (9:55/mm pace)
10k PR - 1:00:22 (9:43/mm pace)

Today, I hit a new 10 mile PR – 1:41:18 (10:07/mm pace) :o

And my splits are back to being very consistent and even!

For today’s 10-miler there was only an 18 second difference between fastest/slowest miles. That makes me very, very happy!! During the stretch between mile 2 and mile 6, my pace only changed by 4 seconds (10:11 – 10:12 - 10:15 – 10:15 – 10:14) – and then inexplicably sped up after that! Mile 8 gave me my fastest mile at 9:57/mm.

If I lose a few more pounds and stay injury-free – who knows how much I can improve!! :D

Wow Bob - CONGRATULATIONS!
That's a great achievement as remember reading you'd already lost a lot of weight - you must be so pleased - with the weightloss and the new PRs of course

Thanks Kaz! Yes, I've lost about 100 pounds (give or take), but I'm not really sure what I weighed at my highest point (I stopped weighing myself), but I think it was around 285lbs. I lost ~75-80lbs the first year I started running (2009) and then did the whole gain and lose yo-yo I mentioned for a few years.

The new PR's are a great incentive to keep going with the running and the weight loss!

Crazy-a$$ weather!

Post by PhotoBob » Wed Dec 23, 2015 2:45 pm

On the first full day of winter here in Ohio, I went out for a 5k run in shorts and a t-shirt! How crazy is that?!? And when I reached the farthest point from my home, the skies opened up with torrential rains - it came down so hard and fast that the street started to flood because the storm drains couldn't keep up!! I was running through ankle deep water at one point! You can only get so wet, right?

Of course, I had no choice but to keep right on running! And I had a pretty good time! One of my neighbors shouted "Good Job!" at me as I passed by! Really made my day! :D

Got is a pretty fast 5k (30:04) - a little slower than the last few runs, but considering the weather conditions - I'll take it!!

Christmas Day - another unusually warm morning (55F), but no rain this time!

Got in a 5k in 29:57, so that really made my day (besides all the presents!!) ;)

Merry Christmas to all - and to all a good run!! :D

Boxing Day (12/26) - after eating a HUGE Christmas Day dinner, I felt that I needed to get out there today to at least try to burn off some of the calories that I consumed!! Again, the weather is still weird, but at least it was a little cooler today at 45F (but still not the "normal" December weather). I've usually had at least one snow run by now, but nothing so far this winter season.

My OCD is really loving the consistency of my last 2 runs:

Christmas Day 5k: 29:57
Boxing Day 5K: 29:56

Wow! What a difference losing some weight can make! I went out this week and had FOUR sub-10/mm runs!! Today's run earned me my second fastest 5K time - EVER!! (It is my fastest-ever non-race time):

1 - 4.15m / 39:49 / 9:36/mm
2 - 4.16m / 41:04 / 9:53/mm
3 - 5.04m / 49:27 / 9:49/mm
4 - 3.10m / 28:57 / 9:20/mm

I feel as though I could sprout wings on my feet if I lose a little more weight!!

Hey Bob - glad your getting some good runs - after all that time off you deserve some favour from the running gods :D!
Congrats also on your nuptials earlier in the year - even if you make it look like an afterthought by putting it last on your list (hope the other half didn't see that )!!!!

I hate to admit it - but it was an afterthought! We've been together for a little over 21 years, so it was more of a "lets just do it" sort of thing!!
