Still plugging away. I managed a 1 hour, 8km treadmill run in Abu Dhabi and a 5km outdoor run back in Edinburgh. The latter was my fastest 5km in over a year but still slow at 34 minutes dead. I did lose a few seconds when I tripped over a kerb and fell (right in front of an elderly pedestrian) but no damage done other than a few scrapes.

I'm in Aberdeen on business for a few days and as the weather was lovely I headed out and did another 5k. Slow (just under 35 minutes) but enjoyed it as it was mostly round one of the parks and there were lots of people out, including other runners, enjoying the weather.

Ouch! Glad to hear you didn't hurt yourself when you tripped!

Cheers Bob - was more embarrassing than anything.

Back in London now (that's runs in Abu Dhabi, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and London in the last 7 days!) and did another 5km on my usual route here. Just crept in under 35 minutes which, while slow, is still the fastest I've done on that route so far by about a minute or so. Just got to keep at it!

Nice weather this morning so went out for a 5k on my usual London route with my wife Fiona. Little bit of an improvement with a sub 34 minute time (33:51) which I'm pleased with as that's my fastest 5k in over a year. It's my wife's first 5km this year as well, although she's done a few shorter runs.

I'm back in Aberdeen for a few days with work and have managed a couple of 5k runs along the river. Tonights was a 32:44, just over a minute quicker than my previous best in a year or so. While still pretty slow I'm seeing improvements so happy enough with that.

Back home in London and have managed another couple of 5k runs on new routes. One is from my apartment and uses an adjacent park - nice but a little hilly. The other is round a little lake a short drive away. A full lap is 1.7km and it's also almost completely flat so is probably where I'll run if I'm going for a time.

Wish I has something interesting to look at like a park or lake - all I ever get to see is houses and cars as I run through my local neighborhood(s). I guess I could drive somewhere more visually appealing, but by then I may not want to run!!

I'm quite fortunate in having nice routes in all the locations I run regularly. I'm up in Aberdeen most weeks on business and one of the reasons for renting the apartment I use there now is that it's better placed for running that others I've used before. This one is very close to a nice park which usually has a lot of activity in the evening, including a British Military Fitness group and several other runners. It's also close to the river and what's becoming my normal route uses an approximately 2km long loop between 2 bridges. I went out to run there last night, intending to do a steady 45 minute run keeping my HR reasonably low. At the end of 45 minutes I was feeling good so decided to extend the route for a bit so decided to run for an hour. After an hour I was at something like 8.4km so I thought "why not extend a bit longer to 10km" - which is what I did. That's my first 10km for well over a year so was quite happy with that. Ok it was slow (1hr 12m) but I managed to keep my HR reasonably low (153 average) and my legs felt ok at the end and still seem ok now.

Back in Edinburgh so headed out for a 5K on one of my usual routes. It's an out and back route - slight uphill and into the wind on the way out. My time for the first 3km was ok so I pushed for the final 2k as I thought I'd be able to improve my 2016 PB. 5:5 and 5:31 for the final (and slightly downhill) 2k meant a nearly 90 second improvement to 31:19 which I'm quite pleased with. Av HR for those 2k was 176 though - so not much left in the tank!
